Abstract
591,040. Electromagnets. WITHERS, J. S. (Webster-Brinkley Co.). April 27, 1945, No. 10640. [Class 35] In an electromagnet of the plunger type, the plunger has a main part terminating in sharply cut away shoulder portions from which extend axial projections of reduced diameter, the distance between the shoulders being the same as that between the centres of the magnetic rings at each end of the winding. In the form shown, the spacing of the shoulders 18, 19 on the central part 13 of the core is the same as that of the centres of the rings 11 and the core has projecting portions 16, 17 increasing the initial pull, but these need not be of the full diameter. The electromagnet may actuate a clutch under push-button control and the fixed part may be trunnion mounted.
