[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A fly-press is driven by an hydraulic motor 44 in constant driving engagement with the flywheel 38. As described the motor carries a pinion engaging internal teeth on the rim of the fly-wheel which is mounted on a flange 37 of the press spindle and clamped thereto by a cap 48 through the intermediary of a friction disc 49 to limit the strain to which the press may be subjected. The spindle rotates in a bearing carried by the press cross-webs 19 and its lower end is screw-threaded in the tup 26 which works in guides carried by the columns 17, 18. The tup carries an arm extending vertically upwards working in guides at the top and back of the press. Fluid is supplied to the motor 44 under pressure by a pump 83, drawing from a sump 84, through a three position valve 82 and conduits 90, 91. The valve 82 is operated by a servo-motor 80 operated in turn from a compressed air supply 73 through the three position valve 53 mounted on the press. The press is started manually by moving the lever 52 in the appropriate direction from its neutral position and is automatically reversed by an adjustable cam 57 on the tup striking a lever 60 to reverse the valve 53, and subsequently stopped by an adjustable cam 58 operating a lever 59 to return the valve 53 to its neutral position. In a modification the spindle is screwthreaded in the bearing carried by the press and rotatable in, but otherwise fixed to, the tup. The fly-wheel moves up and down with the spindle and the hydraulic motor is carried by an extension of the arm carried by the tup. Specification 311,406, [Class 87 (ii)], is referred to.
