Abstract

589,236. Metal sheets for buildings. STEEL CEILINGS, Ltd., and PENKALA, E. May 24, 1944, No. 10034. [Class 20 (ii)] A corrugated metal sheet for building construction has some or all of its corrugations formed alternately along their length with a constricted (e.g. dovetail) opening and then with a wider opening so that the edge of a wooden nailing strip shaped to the section of the constricted part can be inserted into the more open part and then slid along into engagement with the constricted part of the corrugation and so secured to the sheet. In producing the sheet, corrugations of dovetail section are first formed (Fig. 1). Adjacent webs 12 then have formed in them at intervals depressions 13 which causes the edges of the webs at these places to be drawn apart until the corrugation between them assumes a rectangular form. Alternatively the sheet may first be formed with rectangular corrugations some or all of the webs having grooves along their length which are then pressed out at intervals forcing the adjacent edges of adjacent webs together to give the corrugation between them a dovetail form. Alternatively the initial and final shape of the corrugations may be wholly curved instead of rectilinear. Formers may be placed in those corrugations it is desired not to disturb when deforming the original sheet.
