Abstract

587,971. Clamps. JONES, D. G., and KING, J. L. Dec. 20, 1944, No. 25549. [Class 61 (ii)] A fluid-pressure operated clamp has the movable jaw 15 on a lever 12, mounted on a hollow pivot 10, and the rear part 13 of the lever is connected by a screw and clamp plate 17, 18 to one end of an expandable rubber &c. sac 16, occupying an arcuate chamber 6 in the block 5, the other end of the sac being connected by an apertured plate 20 to the rear wall 8 of the block communicating by ducts 25 ... 28 with the fluid-pressure supply. A torsion spring 32 housed within the hollow pivot 10 returns the jaw lever to non- clamping position when the pressure-fluid is released. Fluid is admitted to the sac by pressing the button 55, Fig. 5, which opens the spring-closed valve 50 in the supply duct 47, button stem 55 being then held down by a latch 57, and is released by pressing button 56, which first pulls back the latch 57 so allowing valve 50 to close and then opens the exhaust valve 52. The fluid supply also includes a reducing valve, a pressure control valve and a gauge.
