Abstract

587,394. Doors. SHAPLEY, C. S., and HIGGS, A. June 19, 1943, No. 9897. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A furnace door 1 is provided with a non- perforated permeable refractory lining 3 through which combustion products are drawn into a space 2 connected to a flue 4. A fan or an ejector 5, operated by air, steam or water, is arranged in the flue, the flexible supply pipe 6 permitting the door to be opened. If a vertically sliding door is used, the flue or flues for the chamber may be telescopically arranged, sand seals being provided at the joints. Alternatively, the flue may be flexible to permit of opening of the door. An inspection part, comprising a tube passing through the door and lining 3, may be provided.
