Abstract

Azo dyes are manufactured by coupling diazotized 6-nitro-2-aminobenzthiazole with a 3-acylamino-1-di-(hydroxyalkyl)-aminobenzene which may be substituted in the 6-position by alkoxy, alkyl, hydroxy or halogen. The products yield dischargeable blue dyeings on cellulose ester or ether textile materials such as cellulose acetate, propionate, butyrate, acetatepropionate and acetate-butyrate and ethyl and benzyl cellulose, e.g. from a bath containing the dyestuff dispersed by means of a dispersing agent, and also on some other textile materials, e.g. silk and wool. They may also be used for colouring solutions of cellulose derivatives, especially lacquers and spinning solutions, the latter yielding coloured products by shaping and setting in the form of filaments (e.g. by dry spinning), straws or films. Examples describe the production of dyestuffs from diazotized 6-nitro-2-aminobenzthiazole and (1) 1-di-(b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-3-acetanilide; (2) 1-di-(b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-6-methoxy-3-acetanilide, and the dyeing of cellulose acetate fabric with the products. Other coupling components specified are: 1-di-(b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-6-methyl-, -chloro- and-hydroxy-3-acetanilide, 1 - di - (b - hydroxypropyl) - amino - 3 - propionylaminobenzene and 1 - di - (b : g - di - hydroxypropyl) - amino - 3 - acetanilide. Specification 440,113 is referred to. 1 - Di - (b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-6-methyl- and -6-chloro-3-acetanilide are obtainable by the action of ethylene oxide on, respectively, 2-amino-4-acetylaminotoluene and 4-chloro-3-aminoacetanilide, the latter compound being obtainable by reduction of the corresponding nitro compound. 1 - Di - (b -hydroxypropyl) - amino-3-propionyl-aminobenzene is obtainable by the action of propylene oxide on 1-amino-3-propionylamino-benzene. 1 - Di - (b : g -dihydroxypropyl) - amino-3-acetanilide is obtainable by the action of glycide on monoacetyl-m-phenylenediamine.
