Abstract

A method of removing a gaseous impurity from a molten metal or alloy comprises reacting together a dry carbonate and a non-ferrous metal or alloy of melting point above the decomposition temperature of the carbonate, so as to produce a stream of carbon dioxide bubbles which, in passing through the metal or alloy, carry off the gaseous impurity.
