Abstract

586,543. Electrically heated smoothing irons. TRUVOX ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and KRIWACZEK, O. Dec. 18,1944, Nos. 25379 and 25381. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A laundry iron has a thermostatic control device S in a central recess in the base casting which also completes a circuit to a head-light 6 when the iron reaches a minimum operating temperature. A peripheral groove in the base contains the' heating element 2 and a secondary heating coil 5 in circuit with the head-light. In operation, the distortion of a bimetal strip 32 raises the switch arm 25 until the roller 26 is restrained by a control cam 29. A lever action is then produced about the fulcrum formed by a roller 33 with the result that the free end 22 of the plate 17 tilts upward and the circuit to the heating element is opened by separation of the contacts 23, 24. Contacts 27, 28 in the head-light circuit close when the minimum operating temperature is reached and remain closed during operation of the heater thermostatic control. Temperature adjustment may be made by variation of the position of control cam 29.
