Abstract

586,024. Fans. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL, and PYK, H. T. Dec. 29, 1944, No. 26126. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 13, 1946.] [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] In a two-stroke engine scavenging and charging air is supplied to piston-controlled ports 4 without sudden change of direction from a receiver 8 by passages 9 extending round the cylinder, the air being supplied by' an exhaust-driven fan 20 and an engine-driven fan 26 which are arranged in series. The exhaust-actuated turbine driving the fan 20 is cooled by water jackets 21, 22 and the exhaust outlet 16 is separated by a heat insulating wall 23 from an air inlet filter 24, which may however be arranged on the outer side of the fan 26. The fan 26 is driven on the low pressure side by gearing which is reversible in the case of a directly reversible engine. At low exhaust pressure the fan 20 may be cut out and the fan 26 receive air direct from the atmosphere. Reduction gear may be provided between the exhaust-driven turbine and the fan 20. Coolers for the air may be located before, between or after the fans 20, 26. Specification 545,802, [Group XXVII], is referred to
