Abstract

585,858. Making wire articles. SPORING, P. A., JOHNSON, C. P., and TELEGRAPH CONDENSER CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1944, No. 25321. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending ; winding.-Wire to form spirals 2 having stems 1, Fig. 1, is fed through a tubular guide 3 by feed-rollers 18, 19, each having raised portions of their peripheries in contact with each other under the influence of a spring-loaded plunger 24, Fig. 2. The length of wire required is regulated by varying the mesh of the associated gear-wheels 20, 21. The wire is bent, Fig. 5, by the displacement of plunger 17 into the path of the wire by cam 7 pushing the pivoted lever 5 to abut stop 43, continued rotation of the cam-shaft 14 causing' the cam 41 to rock the lever 16, and the plunger 17 to which it is clamped, whereby the plunger is moved axially by the small roller 44 riding out of the V-groove 45. Slot 67 in the plunger engages the wire and bends it further to a right angle. Between the two bending operations the wire is severed by shears 30, 31 actuated by rotating member 38 contacting roller 37, leaving a free end to be spiralled by pins 49 in the rotary head 4, the head having been advanced by yoke 57. The machine is driven by shaft 9 through gearing and a slipping clutch 12. Specification 479,303, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
