Abstract

584,966. Oil engines. SOC. NOUVELLE DES AUTOMOBILES UNIC. Nov. 29, 1939, Nos. 31080 and 31081. Convention dates, Oct. 21, 1938, and Aug. 22, 1939. [Class 7 (iii)] A combustion chamber 4 in each cylinder head is in the form of a solid of revolution and communicates with the cylinder through an orifice 5 arranged eccentrically relatively to the axis of the cylinder and to the axis of the chamber, the piston 8 has a projection 9 penetrating into the combustion chamber, the exhaust valve 2 but not the admission valve is located in the chamber and the injector 6 is arranged so as to. direct jets of fuel between the two hot walls formed by the exhaust valve and the boss of the piston opposite this valve. The projection 9 co-operate ing with an inclined passage 10 at the end of the compression stroke forces the air tangentially into the combustion chamber. The fuel injector is arranged at an inclination and so as to direct the fuel oppositely to the circulation of the air in the chamber 4. This chamber may. be more or less spherical or torus-shaped. The head of the inlet valve 3 is level with the end of the cylinder. An igniter may be arranged opposite to the injector. In a modification, Fig. 5, the injector 6 gives three lateral jets of fuel 131, 13<2>, 13<3> and the air compressed into the chamber first enters the chamber 4 tangentially, meeting mainly the outer jets 13<1> and 13<3>, but finally is directed through a groove 27 in the piston projection, so as to meet the middle jet 13<2>. The piston projection may be formed separate, and be attached thereto by a bolt.
