[Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] In a machine for pointing and drawing, rods x are gripped by sliding wedges b, c operated by rack mechanism from pressure cylinders h, o and the carriage is advanced by rack gearing from an electromotor to present the rod ends to cutting-heads 1 rotated by an electromotor 4. The rods are withdrawn and a carriage carrying the cutting-heads 1 is raised by screw gear w from an electromotor to align drawing dies with the pointed ends. The carriage is again advanced to insert the rods into the dies through which they are drawn by dogs (not shown). The electromotors operating the elements are controlled by limit switches. The machine may be double-acting.
