Abstract

584,292. Centrifugal separators. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Dec. 22, 1944, No. 25820. [Class 23] A centrifuge for cleaning liquids under pressure comprises inlet and outlet pipes 7, 9, which also form the trunnions of the centrifuge and are mounted in bearings 12, 13, conical passages 21, 23 which lead the fluid to and from the annular separating chamber 22 and a conical diaphragm 24 which divides off the outer layer of the liquid, carrying the heavy impurities, and leads it to an outlet chamber 50. The centrifuge is rotated by means of a gear-wheel 14A. The discharge from the chamber 50 may be free or be controlled by a spring-loaded valve 30 subjected on one side to the pressure in the chamber 50 and on the other side to the pressure in the main stream at 28. A similar diaphragm and valve may be provided on the inlet side. In an alternative, the diaphragm is continued by a cylindrical part spaced from the walls 3, 5 and access to the space between this part and the walls 3, 5 is by radial ports. Slipping and freewheel clutches as described in Specification 569,650 may be incorporated in the drive.
