Abstract

955,434. Centrifugal separators. KRUPPDOLBERG G.m.b.H. Aug. 30, 1961 [Aug. 31, 1960], No. 31230/61. Heading B1D. In a pusher-type centrifuge, Fig. 1, with a washing device 10 for the centrifuged material, the wall of the centrifugal drum I consists of an axially fixed first cylindrical filter portion 2, a diverging solid-walled portion 3, to which the washing liquid is supplied, and a wider cylindrical filter portion 4, from which dry filter cake is dropped into a collecting chamber 11. An inlet pipe 5 for material to be centrifuged leads into an accelerating funnel 6, which is connected to a reciprocal pusher plate 7 by stays and rotates with the pusher plate and the centrifugal drum, the pusher plate being sealed by resilient sealing rings 8 which move the filter cake along to the portion 3. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the diverging portion is secured to and reciprocated with the pusher plate, and, being fitted with similar seals, acts as a pusher ring on the wider filter portion for pre-filt substances which are more fluid and unable to transmit the thrust necessary for discharge of the filter cake. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the diverging-portion 16 is again reciprocable, being secured by stays 17 to the accelerating funnel 18 which is similarly connected to the reciprocated pusher plate 14 ; a washing drum 20, which may overflow through a bore 22 in each stay 17, is connected to, and rotates with, the accelerating funnel. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the pusher plate and wider filter portion are axially fixed and the diverging portion and the first filter portion are connected together, and reciprocated axially thereacross.
