Abstract

584,243. Work - holders. COCKING, W. C., and ROBERTS. A. G. Dec. 29, 1944, No. 26082. [Class 83 (iii)] In a work-holding clamp of the kind comprising a T-section foot 3 for insertion in it T-slot 2 of a machine tool table and a pillar 4 carrying a work-engaging screw 8, the ends a, b of the flange portion 3a on the foot are bevelled as shown so that these ends will make surface contact with the upper and lower surfaces of the slot 2 when the clamp talts due to the pressure of the screw 8 on the work. The bevels are formed at a small angle and each extends for about one-quarter of the length of the flange 3a. The pillar 4 carries two lateral arms 5, (i at different heiglts to accommodate work of different sizes, each arm being provided with a screw 7 or 8 set at an angle to the pillar such that the screw in contact with the work assumes a vertical position when the foot 3 tilts. The required screw may be brought adjacent the work by reversing the clamp in the slot 2 or the upper part of the clamp may be reversible so that the positions of the arms 5, 6 could be interchanged without removing the clamp from the slot.
