Abstract

In an iris for an artificial eye, coloured inert non-plastic granules, fibres, &c., e.g. coloured glass, iron, silver, steel, brass or copper filings or shavings, crushed porcelain, crushed thermoset resins (phenol-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde) are disposed in a matrix of acrylic resin, e.g. polymerized methyl methacrylate or other thermoplastic or thermoset resinous material. The iris may be a slice cut from a rod or tube, or may be built up by superimposing rings containing different granules and of varying internal diameters.
