Abstract
582,902. Signs. CHADWICK, A., and GAIR, S. June 22, 1944, No. 11844. [Class 3 (ii)] Edge-illuminated letters &c. of a sign are built up of one or more strips 3 applied edgewise to the rear of a continuous transparent or translucent panel 2. When more strips than one are employed they are cemented together near their front edges and to the panel 2 at their co-planar edges. The contacting faces are sealed off by transparent cement 4, and a coloured surround 5 is painted on the inner face of the panel 2 close to the strips 3. The panel is finally masked by an opaque coating 6 covering the remainder of its surface. The panel may form a removable front face of a casing, or be framed to fill a wall opening, or may be shaped to surround the lamp. The lamp may be omitted, and the casing formed for daylight illumination. The strips 3 may be differently coloured, and may be of glass or a fluorescent thermoplastic substance.
