Abstract

NETIKI 20 Aug 1969 41486/69 Heading G5C A sign is formed by a panel 1 the edge 3 of which is bevelled and coated with a light-reflecting material so that light from a source 4 lying in the plane of the panel is reflected in part towards an observer looking in the direction of the arrow A, and in part back into the panel. The edge 3, which coincides with and forms the outline of a pattern, may be coated with white enamel, and a cylindrical filter 5 may be used to colour the reflected light. A cover sheet 7 may be of glass, or of metal sheet having an openings corresponding to the pattern formed by the bevelled edge 3. A layer 8 of background paint may be applied to the sheet 1. The bevelled edge may form only a part of the pattern, a layer (13) of light-reflecting material being applied to the whole of the back of the panel (9), Figs. 3-4 (not shown); and there may be more than one light source (14). Alternatively, Fig. 6, a rear edge surface 17 of the panel is curved parabolically and coated at 18 with light-reflecting material, a lamp 20 lighting the panel through an end face 19, a line pattern formed by the edge surface 17 being viewed through an uncoated opposite edge surface 16.
