Abstract

582,155. Liquid meters. ALUMINIUM PLANT & VESSEL CO., Ltd., and HUNNIKIN, C. March 6,1945, No. 5561. [Class 69 (i)] In a measuring device liquid flows into a receiving chamber 2 and thence at a uniform rate into a measuring chamber 4 provided with a valve 5 operated by an electromagnet 8 and electrodes 13, 14 which form part of an electrical circuit for controlling the valve. When the liquid reaches the electrode 13 the electrical circuit is closed, causing the valve to open the outlet 6 and close the inlet 3. The valve is maintained in this position until the liquid level is below that of the electrode 14. The pressure between the two chambers is maintained in equilibrium by a vent pipe 12, the pressure being either atmospheric or that at which the process circuit is working. In one modification, two concentric electrodes of different lengths are accommodated in the vent pipe 12, and in another a second electromagnetically-operated valve is located between the lower end of the vent pipe 12 and the outlet of an additional vent pipe for the measuring chamber 4. In the holding circuit shown in Fig. 4, energization of the electromagnet 8 is controlled by the switch arm 29.
