[Class 110 (iii)] A gas turbine plant having a part, or all, of the working fluid circulating around a closed circuit, is regulated by means of a speed governor 24 which either admits additional fluid at high pressure to the circuit from an accumulator 9, or opens a bye-pass valve 21 placed between high-pressure and low-pressure turbines 6, 7. The bye-pass pipe 20 is preferably connected to the same point 12 to which the pressure supply pipe 10 is connected. The accumulator 9 is supplied by a compressor 18 driven by a motor 19. Low and high pressure compressors 1, 3, having an intercooler 2, lead air through a pre-heater 4 to a heater 5, thence to the turbines 6, 7. Exhaust air from the latter flows through 4, a cooler 8, and returns to the compressor 1. Fuel is supplied through a valve 33 and combustion air by a blower 31. Further supplies to the circuit may be made through pipes 14. 15, controlled by valves 16, 17 influenced by the governor 24. Valve 11 or 21 is fully opened before the valves 16, 17 or leak-off valves 34, 35, also influenced by the governor, are fully opened, valves 11 and 21 opening more rapidly than the other valves. Fig. 2 shows a modified plant in which part of the air supplied by a compressor 40, after passing through a pre-heater 41, is used as combustion air in a combustion chamber 42. The second part of the air is heated in a coil C and led to an air-driven turbine 43. The combustion gases from 42 drive a turbine 45 and are exhausted to atmosphere, or to heatexchangers. A cooler 44 is provided. An accumulator 47 is supplied with air by a compressor 57. A regulating valve 49 is opened to admit compressed air to an intermediate stage of the turbine 43, when the speed of a governor 55a falls. When the load diminishes, the governor speeds up and opens a bye-pass valve 50 so that the latter stages of turbine 43 receive less working fluid than the earlier stages. Further control is secured by a compressor 46 which, at maximum plant load, supplies all of its air to the turbine circuit. Under influence of the governor 55a, regulating valves 62, 63, 64 are opened successively to release a graduallyincreasing quantity of air from the compressor 46.
