Abstract
580,211. Oil seals. MURRAY, W. June 17, 1944, No. 11586.. [Class 122 (v)] An oil seal for shafts, pistons &c. comprises a ring.6 of leather &c. with a conical lip pressed against the shaft &c. by a conical washer 10 secured to the carrier 1 by screws and nuts with (leaf) springs 18 interposed between the nuts and washer shown, or if the screws are reversed between the screw heads and washer, the clamping ring 5 by which the seal ring is secured being held by screws 11 spaced between the washer screws and inserted first through the end of the screw against the inner face of the clamping ring so as to leave freedom of axial and radial movement to the washer. These screws may also be reversed and their ends riveted over externally. Spacing sleeves may be passed over the screws between the washer and their nuts or heads. A duct 21 allows oil to pass back to a sump.
