[Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XI] In the air-heating apparatus described in the parent Specification and comprising an open fire grate 27 and a surrounding air heater 58 for supplying heated air through a damper 59 to the room 11 in which the fire is located, a second air heater 68 is arranged around a flue 69, extending from the grate flue 53, for conditioning the air supply to one or more other rooms, e.g., on the upper floor of a two-storey house. Air is supplied to the heater 58 through a duct 33, and to the heater 68 through a duct 34 and casing 62 surrounding the back of the first heater 52, the two ducts 33, 34 being provided in the casing 30 of the grate at the sides of a central duct 32 which supplies primary air to the fire, and the first heater is fitted with the outlet damper 59 and a damper 60 opening into, say, a living room 11 and a drying room 12 respectively on the ground floor, and the second heater with dampers 71, 73 opening into a warm passage 72 and bedroom 21 on the floor above. A connecting damper 74 between the two heaters is also provided so that, when required, the damper 59 may be closed and the damper 74 opened whereby the air from both heaters is discharged through the dampers 71, 73. The flue 69 extends up to the chimney, and alongside it may be fitted a ventilating flue leading from the kitchen of the house. The grate itself comprises a bowl-shaped perforated fuel bed 45 of cast iron which is mounted in a circular firebrick hearth 46 above a gas ring 41 for igniting and revivifying the fire, a segmental curb 48 and a complementary hot-water boiler 49, having inlet and outlet pipes 50, 51, being disposed respectively at the front and rear of the hearth 46. The said pipes 50, 51, which are connected to a hot-water system, not shown, pass through a compartment 76 formed below the heater 58 and between the walls of the casing 62, and this compartment is fitted with a damper 78 and ducts 35 for controlling a supply of secondary air to the fire above the bed 45 this air being drawn from the drying room 12. The grate casing 30 may be provided with a balanced hinged door 38 for permitting access to the flues 32, 33, 34 and to the control tap 39 of the supply pipe of the gas ring 41, also with a track 66 to coact with guides 65 around the heater 58 for locating a pair of arcuate shutters 63, 64 adapted, in their closed position, to enclose the whole front of the grate.
