Abstract
579,051. Cupping. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SWANN, J. Jan. 2, 1942, No. 72. [Class 83 (iv)] A die, for drawing cartridge cases or other deep or complicated stampimgs, comprises a part D which is pressed by springs 18 against a concentric upper part 13 fixed to the bed 11, a space 25 being arranged between these parts to hold lubricant. The part D may comprise the die proper in the form of a ring 14 and mounting rings 15, 16, 17 adapted to support spring- pressed strippers 21. Lubricant is fed by gravity or pump to the space 25 and when the punch 20 forces a stamping, placed in the guide ring 12, through the die 14, the whole part D moves down and allows lubricant to flow down the slope 23. In a modification, the strippers are positively moved radially out of the way of the work by contacting inclined surfaces on the strippers and part D respectively, as this moves down, the springs, which return the strippers, being strong enough to cause these to lift the part D to its normal upper position when the punch returns.
