Abstract
578,601. Cast iron shot. M O N D NICKEL CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1943, No. 19848. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1942. [Class 82 (i)] Shot for use in shot blasting is made from cast iron containing 2-4 per cent of carbon, 0.2-1.5 per cent of manganese, 0.2-1.5 per cent of silicon, 0.5-6 per cent of nickel, 0-2 per cent of chromium, and the balance iron, and having a microstructure of which at least 85 per cent consists of carbide and austenite. A range of 0.2-1.2 per cent of silicon is preferred. The nickel content is preferably restricted to 3.5-5 per cent, the silicon content being 0.5-1 per cent.
