Abstract
578,034. Hydraulic turbines; centrifugal pumps. TRIGGS, W. W. (Sherlock, S. R.). Aug. 10, 1944, No. 15272. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In a hydraulic turbine, the adjustable guide vanes a are mounted on eccentrics and so controlled that they maintain a substantially constant angle with the runner periphery. Each guide vane spindle a<1> is journalled in an eccentric c, Fig. 1, and carries a lever o. Each' eccentric is journalled in a suitable recess in the top cover d, in co-operation with a thrust ring f, and carries a lever c<1>. A renewable bush e and packing g, h, i may be provided. Links k connect consecutive eccentrics, which are also linked by levers l which are formed in two relatively sliding parts to accommodate variations in length. Extensions m of the levers l are connected by links n to the guide vane levers o. The pivots n<1>, n<2> may be eccentrically adjustable. In an alternative construction, the levers l, m, n are eliminated, and the guide vane levers o have shoes which slide in suitable slots. A modification is described for application to impulse turbines. Ball or roller bearings may be provided for the eccentric and guide vane spindles. The eccentrics may be actuated by means of a gear wheel mounted on the outside of the bearing housing and meshing with teeth formed in the tops of the eccentrics. The guide vane parts may be made of cast steel or bronze. The invention may be applied to centrifugal pumps.
