Abstract
577,062. Gas turbines. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd.. and GAY, A. R. B. Oct. 30, 1944, No. 21202. [Class 110 (iii)] In a gas-turbine propulsive plant, as, for example, described in Specification 578,549, in which there are a number of fuel burners either in separate interconnected combustion chambers or in a single annular chamber, fuel is supplied to selected burners only at small throttle openings. As shown in Fig. 1, two diametrically opposed burners B are supplied by a pipe D and the remaining burners A by a pipe C. Fuel is supplied by a pump E and the supply is controlled by a throttle valve G. At low settings of the throttle, a two-way valve H shuts off the flow to the ring pipe C and opens a by-pass F<2>, having a metering constriction F<5>, to the pump supply. Fig. 2 shows a valve assembly. The throttle valve G<1> is operated steadily by a lever J until the gate M is reached and during that movement the two-way valve H<1> keeps open the passage C<1> to the burners A. For smaller loads, the lever is moved through the gate and to the end of its stroke so as to close the way to C<1> and open the by-pass F<4>. In another form the valve H<1> is actuated automatically by a piston to which fuel is supplied by a valve on the stem of valve G<1> when the throttle reaches a certain small opening position Alternatively, the supply of pressure fluid to the piston may be controlled by a barometric device.
