576,275. Vibration detectors and indicators. HIGH DUTY ALLOYS, Ltd., HANSTOCK, R. F., and MURRAY, A. Jan. 10, 1944, No. 427. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] Apparatus for exciting or detecting torsional oscillations in an elastic body comprises an alternating- current coil system 2 having currentcarrying portions A, B parallel to the oscillation axis of the body and coils 3 carried on a yoke 4 to provide a magnetic field approximately at right angles to the axis of oscillation, the induced currents cutting the magnetic field to produce an alternating torque. The coils 3 and yoke 4 may be replaced by a permanent magnet. For detecting and indicating torsional vibrations, the coils 2 are connected through an amplifier to a cathode-ray oscillograph or to a wave-analyser. If the body 1 is made of non-conducting material, it may be coated with a metal.
