575,917. Testing physical properties. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and CHARLES, H. N. April 22, 1944, No. 7498. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A mechanical vibrator for testing resonance in gear-boxes &c. is provided with two sources of power, one governing 'the frequency of the vibrations and the other, a pneumatic one, producing 'the oscillations and determining their amplitude. The vibrator comprises studs b<2> adapted to engage the gear-box or other structure and carried by an arm b<3> solid with a shaft B secured at its other, end to a second arm or paddle, the ends of which are disposed between tubes C<1> ... C' mounted in a casing A pairs of the tubes being inflated alternately to oscillate the paddle. As shown, gas under pressure flows from an inlet G, Fig. 5, through either a passage g leading to the tubes C<2>, C<3> or through a passage g<1> in communication with the tubes C<1>, C', a rotary disc valve E determining which passage is open and simultaneously providing an outlet from the other pair of tubes to an exhaust pipe H.
