Abstract

575,273. Universal joints. WOOLLEY, S., DAWSON, S., and EYRE, A. J. March 7, 1944, No. 4219. [Class 80 (ii)] In a universal joint of the kind described in Specification 561,166 having bifurcated arms 11, 12 engaging one long and two short pivot pins 13, 14 in a central block 10, the pivot pins are interlocked by providing the long pin 13 with a recess provided by a reduced central portion 13a into .which the ends of the short pins, which are screwed into the block, engage. Instead of being screwed into the block, the short pins may have end recesses 14b, Fig. 6, which on application of pressure will enable the ends of the pins to be distorted as at 14c to lock themselves into position. The pins may be finally secured by welding, soldering or brazing through a central hole 10a in the block.
