Abstract
575,187. Jointing tubes to plates. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 29, 1943, Nos. 5027, 5028, and 5029. Convention dates, March 31, 1942, Oct. 12, 1942, and Nov. 27, 1942. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Tubes 2 are secured to a partition wall 1, e.g., of a heat-exchanger, by expanding the tube therein by fluid pressure. This is effected by means of a member 5 which can be pushed into a tube 2 and forms therewith an annular chamber 7 into which pressure fluid is admitted by passages 8, 9. The ends of chamber 7 are closed by rubber or other plastic or flexible material 10 backed by two tapered rings 11, 12 of which the outer ones 12 are slotted and which are adjusted and tightened by nuts 13, 14. The axial length of the chamber 7 may be varied by washers 17 to bring the rings 10 just outside or within the bore in the wall 1. If the tube is thinwalled a sleeve 19, Fig. 3, may be inserted therein and remain as part of the joint. With tubes closely spaced in the heat-exchanger of a gas-turbine plant, the gas at a higher pressure can flow outside the tubes which are thus stressed' in tension and support the walls 1.
