Abstract
574,720. Laying ropes on drums. PEARSON, J. B. Jan. 4, 1944, No. 141. [Class 78 (v)] The rope 14 of a winch &c. is relayed in the drum groove by pressers 10 which bear against the rope and are traversed along the drum in step with the oncoming rope. The pressers 10 are carried by the uprights 4 of a frame which embraces the drum 1 and is mounted to slide along a guide bar 11 fixed parallel to the drum axis. Each upright 4 carries at a point below the level of the drum axis a counterweighted pivoted shoe 6, and the cross-bar 3 of the frame carries a shoe 5. All shoes 5, 6 engage the drum groove, and effect the traverse of the frame as the drum rotates. ' An adjustable tie-bar 8 connects the lower ends of the uprights 4. The rope 14 passes through a loop 13 fixed to the bar 3.
