Abstract
574,230. Swivelling-couplings. BRUNO PATENTS, Inc. Nov. 15, 1943, No. 19028. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1942. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A joint allowing relative rotation between two lengths of a tubular outer conductor of a coaxial line is enclosed in a casing containing packing to produce a gas and liquid tight seal for the joint. The casing 7 is attached to the stationary conductor 4 and contains bearings 12, 12<1> for the rotary conductor 1. Formed in the casing is an annular shoulder which may have a bead 17 against which fits a resilient ring 16 moulded to a metal ring 14 and shaped at 27 to fit round the conductor 1. The ring is held in place by a spacer 15 between it and the bearing 121 and put under pressure by a screw cover 18. A second resilient ring 161, Fig. 3 may be employed and oil or grease introduced between the two rings, the ring 161 having a tapered outer edge co-operating with the undercut lower surface of the spacer 15, or a third resilient ring having an upturned tapered outer edge fitted below the ring 161 to effect an oil or grease tight seal. The metal ring 14 may take various forms and be set at different positions in the periphery of the ring 16. The resilient rings are of synthetic oil-resistant rubber or neoprene.
