573,174. Solenoids. VICKERS, Inc., MILLER, R. S., and SEIDEL, K. Jan. 16, 1943, No. 835. [Class 35] The housing for the winding 24, Fig. 1, of a solenoid is formed by moulding or casting a casing 15 of non-magnetic material, such as aluminium or the non- metallic material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite," around L-shaped blocks A, B, C, D, Fig. 4, formed of solid or laminated iron. The blocks are held in spaced relation around an axis E by angle-irons 10 and braces 11. The housing is machined to provide a cylindrical bore, which terminates in a wall 17, and the magnetic circuit is completed by two transverse laminated blocks F, G, Fig. 2, the ends-of which register with the ends of the blocks A, B, C, D, and to which is attached a polepiece 21. A cap 20 of the same material as the casing 15 is secured thereto by bolts 23 with soft washers to seal the inside of the housing. The winding is mounted on a non-magnetic sleeve 25, sealed at the end by compressible gaskets 26, 27, so that the parts may be drawn closely together in connection with the member 28a, such as the body of a valve, to form a complete assembly. The slotted solenoid core 28, connected to the movable member, works in the sleeve 25. Specification 573,203 is referred to.
