573,096. Wheel tyres. WALLIS, L. F. Nov. 8, 1943, Nos. 18533, 18534 and 18535. Convention dates, Nov. 20, 1942, Feb. 9, 1943, and Sept. 20, 1943. [Class 144 (ii)] The tread of a wheel tyre 3 consists of strips cut from rubber 1 reinforced with canvas 2, placed side-by-side on the tyre with the canvas disposed edgeways to the tread and united together and to the tyre under heat and pressure. The strips may be cut from a used tyre with cord fabric and may extend longitudinallytransversely or diagonally of the tread, the strips being so assembled that the cords of one strip cross the cords of the adjacent strip, all the cords extending obliquely and not radially to the tread. The strips may have one or both faces curved and they may be wedge-shaped, or parallel with occasional wedge strips, whilst certain strips may be deeper than others to provide a ribbed tread 5. The strips may be united together through their full depth, or only for a short distance at their inner surfaces.
