Abstract

Nitroguanidine is produced in a continuous process in which guanidine nitrate and sulphuric acid of 90-98 per cent concentration are added to a circulating reaction mixture, a portion of the latter being continuously withdrawn for the recovery of nitroguanidine. In the Figure, <PICT:0572931/IV/1> guanidinenitrate is fed to a mixer 1, and the mixture passed to a reactor coil 7, after addition of the necessary quantity of sulphuric acid at the point 4. The reaction products pass to a constant level tank 11, which feeds the mixer 1, a portion of the reaction mixture being withdrawn for precipitation and recovery of the nitroguanidine by dilution.
