Abstract

572,490. Road rollers. AVELING-BARFORD, Ltd., and BRAMBLE, W. H. Jan. 21, 1944, No. 1194. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group X] In a road roller with means for sprinkling the rollers with water, the spraying pipes are rotatable about their axes in bearings to facilitate clearing choked perforations, and a removable stopper is provided at one end of each pipe to permit the pipe to be cleared by flushing water therethrough. Water is drawn from a tank 1 through pipe 5 by a pump 6 and is delivered through pipe 8 with a swivel coupling 9 and through a stuffing box 11 to a perforated pipe 13 rotatable therein by a handle 14, the pipe 13 delivering water to the front roller 2 which also receives water through perforations in the stuffing box. The pump also supplies water toperforated pipes 22 adjacent the rear rollers 3. the pipes 22 being supported by brackets 20 and in glands 23, Fig. 5, in the pump housing 24, and rotated by handles 25. The pipe stoppers may comprise bolts 16, Fig. 7, knurled nuts 15 and rubber sleeves 19. Lengths of rotatable rigid piping may be connected by flexible tubing.
