Abstract

571,290. Light regulating. CHANCE BROS., Ltd., and HOLMES, J. G. Sept. 8, 1943, No. 14726. [Class 40 (iii)] The intensity of an electric lamp f employed as a beacon for guiding aviators &c. is regulated as required by atmospheric conditions by action of light from the lamp or another lamp in the same circuit reaching a photo-electric cell a through the atmosphere, the cell a being arranged in a bridge circuit to act differentially with respect to a cell b which is illuminated by a standard source g and is 'not affected by atmospheric conditions. A cell c may also be provided responsive to sky conditions, this cell serving, for example, to cause the brightness of lamp f to increase as general illumination increases. Cell c may also operate a relay k for switching sources f and g off at full daylight and on when daylight declines. The regulated source may comprise a number of lamps which are put into and out of action as required.
