[Class 61 (ii)] A vice comprises a base, a stationary jaw on the base adapted to support a plurality of work-pieces, a corresponding plurality of separate and relatively slidable jaws carried by a stationary support and adapted to co-operate with the stationary jaw, an operating member common to all the slidable jaws, springs for retracting the slidable jaws and resilient means through which independent movements can be transmitted from the operating member to the slidable jaws. In one form, Fig. 1, a block c secured by screws d between parallel guides b at - the side of a base a carries a jaw e formed with a number of notches adapted to co-operate with similar notches on a number of separate movable jaws j to support work-pieces g. Jaws j carry stems q passing through bores in a block i fixed between the guides b by screws h. The other ends of the stems carry hollow thrust pieces s with split tapered resilient ends projecting into recesses t in a member m adapted to be operated by a cam n or by other means to move the jaws j into contact with the workpieces, the resilient ends of the thrust pieces allowing independent movement of the several jaws as the various work-pieces are gripped. On release of the member m, the jaws are retracted by springs l. In another form, Fig. 5, the guides bare omitted and the blocks c' and i<1> held by screws through the base a<1>. The thrust pieces s<1> are non-resilient and spaced from the ends of the stems q<1> by springs w<1> through which the thrust of the operating member m<1> is resiliently transmitted to the jaws j<1>. The member m<1> is operated through parallel rods y<1> passing through the ends of the block c<1>. Upstanding adjustable abutments 4<1> for the work-pieces are carried by a bar 3<1> adjustably secured to the base by a pin-and-slot connection.
