568,813. Portable grinding-machines. PATON, W. H., and AERO PIPE & GLASS CO., Ltd. Sept. 28, 1943, No. 15911. [Class 60] [Also in Groups XXII and XXVI] Portable compressed air driven rotary tools have a rotor F provided with a helical rib and rotating in ball bearings in a casing provided with a helical groove of opposite hand to that of the rotor. Multi- ,start helices may be employed. A screw cap B on the upper end of the casing mounts one ball bearing and also a valve G that normally closes the inlet port b<1> being held by a spring g<1> against a shoulder b<3>. A lever H provides for manual control. The lower screw cap C mounts the other ball bearing and has a ring of holes C<2> serving as exhaust ports, the exit ends of the ports deflect the exhaust towards the cutting tool to blow away cuttings. The cutter may be a drill, rotary file, grinding-wheel, &c.
