Abstract
568,684. Thermionic valves and circuits therefor. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and BELL, D. A. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16624. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In a frequency-changer having two output electrodes and a first control electrode system which controls the sum of the currents drawn by the output electrodes, and a second control electrode system which controls the distribution between the two output electrodes, the switch-over from one output electrode to the other occurs in a small fraction of the cycle. As applied to a triode-hexode valve, Fig. 4 (not shown), the output is taken between the hexode anode and screen grid, which latter is aligned with the first control grid and the local oscillator is modified to produce a substantially square wave-form by a resistance inserted. in series with the oscillator grid lead. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which the second control electrode 5 operates by beam deflection. In this arrangement, the signal is applied to controlling grid 2 and a focusing electrode 3 is provided before the accelerator grid 4 which is preferably aligned with the grid 2. The deflector electrode, 5 co-operates with anodes 7, 9 to form a local oscillator circuit, while the output is taken from the anodes 6, 8. Fig. 2 shows the valve construction, the anodes 7; 9 forming the local oscillator, being arranged over extensions of the electrodes 3, 5 so that the accelerator grid 4 and control grid 2 do not affect the oscillator section.
