Abstract

516,047. Automatic control systems. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Jan, 24, 1939, No. 2442. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1937. [Class 38 (iv)] An arrangement for maintaining constant the voltage applied to an X-ray or other appartus 2 through a control tube 3 from a variable voltage source such as a condenser 1 comprises an amplifier tube 4 connected in series with a voltage source 15 between the grid and cathode of the tube 3 and having its grid 13 connected to a tap 14 on a potentimeter 6, 7 so arranged that the potential of grid 13 increases as the terminal voltage falls. The potentiometer 6, 7 is connected across the load in series with the tube 4 and an auxiliary source of anode current 5 therefor, the tube 4 and source 5 being shunted by a resistance 8. The voltage applied to the load 2 may be set at different values by movement of tap 14. On closure of a switch 16 a negative bias voltage is applied from source 19 to the grid 13 of tube 4 which is then blocked so that tube 3 is also blocked and no current is supplied to the X-ray tube 2.
