Abstract

568,530. Hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SEEWER, P. W. March 7, 1941, No. 3156. [Class 110 (iii)] In a vertical hydraulicturbine or pump - rotor having swivelling blades 1 Fig. 1, a hydraulic servomotor 10 arranged below the bladebearings transmits movement to cranks 1b which are rigid with the bladespindles la and are arranged outside the servomotor, the direction of transmi s s i o n being at a considerable angle to the axis of the turbine. The construction causes the servomotor to operate the cranks with a high leverage and permits access to the servomotor and cranks on removal of a hood 11. In the preferred construction, each blade 1 has an integral spindle la and crank 1b, the spindles being mounted in inner and outer bearings in a split hub 2a. The cranks carry pivoted blocks 5 engaging inclined grooves 6a in a prismatic sleeve 6 which is guided vertically by projections 7b, and guide-channels 11a in the hood 11. The servomotor-cylinder 10 is secured to the hub 2a and contains a piston 9 which is connected by a rod 8 and plate 7 to the member 6. Oil under pressure is supplied to the spaces above and below the piston by means of pipes 15, 16 secured to the cylinder 10 and the rod 8 respectively. Oil is supplied to the cranks &c. through the space between the pipe 15 and the turbine-shaft 17, In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the piston 9 is stationary, and the vertically movable sleeve 6 serves also as a cylinder.
