[Class 138 (i)] In a dish-washing machine comprising a tank 1 arranged in a container 3 and which may be fitted with a detachable sprayer 5, as described in Specification 567,140, and with nested baskets 27, as described in Specification 566,489, water-circulating means is provided consisting of a pump 6 driven by a motor 7 under control of a switch 33, Fig. 2 (not shown), which is opened when the lid 28 is opened. The pump 6 normally draws cleansing liquid from a sump 2 and delivers to a discharge fitting 9, Fig. 3, and chamber 12 and thence via openings 14 to a discharge pipe 17 connected to the sprayer 5. The chamber 12 also connects to a pipe 18 leading to an outlet connected by a pipe 23, Fig. 5, to a nozzle 24 closed by a cap 25 held by a latch 26. A spring-closed piston valve 15 is kept open by the liquid pressure when the cap 25 is closed, but when it is desired to empty the tank 1 the cap 25 is opened and the liquid withdrawn by the pump is discharged to waste by the pipe 24 and the valve 15 closes automatically under the action of the spring 16. To fill the tank, the pipe 24 is connected to a tap, and a float-controlled indicator tells when to close the tap. The lid 28 is provided with a downwardly extended flange 29, Fig. 2 (not shown), with a rim 31, and the tank 1 is provided with an inward flange 30 which extends across the rim 31 to form a splash trap. The sump 2 is fitted with an electric immerser 126 which may be controlled by a thermostat, and a filter may be fitted to the sump 2. The device is mounted on wheels 4, and by removing the sprayer 5 and the baskets 27 the device may be used as a domestic boiler. The valve 15 may be replaced by a positively operated valve. Knives protected as in Specification 565,113 may be cleaned in the machine.
