Abstract

566,729. Armoured vehicles. SPECIALTY EQUIPMENT & MACHINERY CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1942, No. 16680. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1941. [Class 92 (i)] A gun carriage comprises a frame or platform upon which is mounted a revolvable turret and also a pair of arcuate shield members, the latter being shiftable relative to the turret while remaining in concentric relation thereto. As shown in section in Fig. 3, the gun turret 70 has a peripheral flange 76 supported by rollers 78 running on a ring 74, the latter being mounted on the frame or platform 12. Crank' means 82 are provided for manually rotating the turret. The turret is apertured for the passage of the gun barrel 92, Fig. 5, and around the turret are the two shields 110 having cut-out portions 118. Each shield has inner and outer portions 112, 114, forming a recess 116 into which projects an extension 106 of a sub-bearing ring 102. The front end of the platform 12 is normally supported by a pair of legs 40 pivoted to the platform at 42 and carrying wheels 48. A grooved lateral member 44 extends from each leg and projects through aprons 14 of the platform when the legs are vertical, locking means 46 being provided on the apron for holding the legs in position. Flaps 16 are hinged to the aprons for providing further protection to the structure, these flaps and aprons being slotted at 64 to receive a part of each leg when the latter are raised. The floor 94 is suspended by rods 96 and is adjustable in height. The platform at its rear end is supported on arms 32, the lower ends 34 of which slide on the curved axle 30. Adjustment of the platform can thus be effected by moving the arms 32 in a lateral direction.
