Abstract

A stocking is produced by knitting a nylon yarn together with a transitory yarn, permanently setting the stocking and treating it with a solvent to dissolve the transitory yarn. The nylon may be polyhexamethylene adipamide and the transitory yarn may be an organic derivative of cellulose or may be a polyvinyl alcohol, a vinyl resin or casein. The two yarns may be drawn into the knitting needles side by side or may be twisted to form a composite yarn, or a yarn having a nylon core and a sheathing of the transitory yarn or a transitory yarn having the nylon yarn wrapped around it may be employed.
