Abstract

563,752. Locking cycles. WHITTIT, W. W. T. Nov. 2, 1942, No. 15414. [Class 79 (iii)] Means for locking a cycle or the like to prevent unauthorized use comprises a lock 1 fitted adjacent to but externally of the frame head 4 so that the bolt 5 is directed towards the frame head or an associated part which is formed to receive it, the arrangement being such that when the steering stem 8 is turned to an appropriate position and the bolt is shot the steering stem is locked against turning movement. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the lock 1 is secured to the frame by clips 12 preferably formed integral with a box 10 enclosing the lock. The lock bolt 5 is of circular cross-section and is adapted to register with holes 6, 7 in the frame head 4 and the steering stem 8 respectively when the steering stem is slightly askew. The lock may be fixed in front of the frame head as indicated in broken lines. In a modification, the lock is carried by plates extending across the gap between the frame tubes 2, 3. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, the lock is secured to the steering stem 8 and its bolt 5 is adapted to engage a hole 25 in a member 24 welded to the frame tube 2. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 19955/94, 4080/97, 13151/97, [all in Class 79], 15335/10, 3014/11 and 145,370, [all in Class 79 (iii)].
