Abstract
563,511. Alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1943, No. 3068. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1942. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] An electric contacting .element comprises a compact bonded mass of pressed and sintered metal powder composed of silver with up to 15 per cent of copper. The mass may also contain a total amount of 0.1 to 10 per cent of one or more of the metals iron, chromium, nickel, cobalt. The powdered alloy or mixed powdered metals are pressed, sintered and repressed to increase the density. The compacted body is then heated below the melting- point of silver, e.g. to a temperature between 800‹-800‹ C. for 2-16 hours, to effect recrystallisation and grain growth therein and to effect the solid solution of a portion of the copper in the silver, and is then quenched and finally aged, e.g. at a temperature between 200‹ and 400‹ C. for ¢-10 hours, to effect precipitation of at least part of the copper from the solid solution.
