Abstract
563,023. Treating gases with liquids. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., and COOPER, C. M. Jan. 18, 1943, No. 877. [Class 55 (ii)] In the transfer of constituents between a vapour or gas and a liquid, especially when scrubbing gases with water, the gas passes through a freely falling stream of liquid that carries liquid-entrained gas into a pool from which the gas is separated, the depth of the pool being at least one-fourth the height of the liquid fall, the gas passing in counter-current to the liquid. The water falls through slotted members 2 in streams 3 into pools 4 taking entrained gas into the pools, a zig-zag course being given to the gas by obstructions 6. In Fig. 4, the falling streams 5 are provided by overflows from troughs 2, and the scrubbed gas rises to beneath hoods 8 which prevent it from mixing with the fresh unscrubbed gas about to be carried into the pools. The scrubbed gas, which is conducted by passages B to the next entrainment zone above, may be once again entrained in the next higher entrainment zone.
