Abstract

562,820. Reciprocating pumps. GROFF, J.C. March 2, 1943, No. 3418. [Class 102 (i)] In a vertical reciprocating plunger pump, the plunger 13 is detachably connected to the driving member 16 and reciprocates within a stuffing box 14 in the lower end of a bored-out portion of the fluid end 3, the upper end of which is fitted with a removable discharge valve 8 and a removable cover 19, and the axial bore of the valve seat 10 has a diameter greater than that of the plunger 13, whereby the latter may be withdrawn upwardly. The valve seat 10 may be removable and eccentric with, or slightly eccentric to, the plunger, and the discharge valve 8 may be interchangeable with the inlet valve 6. The lower end of the plunger may include a conical portion and a portion of less diameter to facilitate its insertion, and it may be connected to the cross-head 16 by screw-threads, or by means of a sleeve nut 17 and a two-part removable split ring 18.
