Abstract

562,458. Door-operating appliances. VADASZ, S. J. March 19, 1943, No. 4454. [Class 65 (i)] A door-operating appliance comprises a closing spring 14 and a friction brake 5, 11 which resists the opening movement but not the closing one. The drum 5 has a central bearing on the spindle 3, to which the inner end of the spring is fixed, and is rotated, when the door is opened, by a clutch comprising a disc 6 with wedge recesses 6<1> in which are rollers 7-7<11> adapted to jam on the inner surface of 5 when 6 is 'rotated by the spring drum 4 through teeth 8, 8<1> engaging recesses 9, 91 in 6. The drum 4 is connected to the door frame by a rope 10 and one end 11<11> of the brake band 11 is fixed to a lever tensioned by an adjustable spring. The spindle 3 is held fixed by a plate 15 having lugs 17, 17<1> engaging slots in the casing cover 1 and teeth 161 engaging a slot 3<11> in the spindle end. The spring may be wound up by detaching 15 from 3<11> and turning-3 by a nick 31 &c. in its end.
